SKF inaugurates two more labs in GTCI, Bangalore

SKF, the global technology and solutions provider of bearings, seals, lubrication systems, mechatronics and services, has inaugurated Product Investigation Centre (PIC) and Mechatronics Laboratory at company’s Global Technical Centre (GTCI), Bangalore which was inaugurated last year with an investment of INR 500 million. This initiative will further reinforce SKF’s commitment to innovation by setting up industry benchmarks in product research, quality and standards. Additionally, these centres are part of SKF’s strategy to provide knowledge engineering competence in India by working closely with customers on its five platforms including bearings and units, seals, lubrication systems, mechatronics and services. Through these initiatives, SKF’s domain specialists will support the requirements of the businesses to serve customers with optimized solutions. “These initiatives will bring SKF’s knowledge engineering capability closer to customer and help us develop and deliver world class solutions at desired speed. We believe that both these initiatives will help build a competitive advantage for our customers while helping SKF achieve customer service excellence.” said Shishir Joshipura, Managing Director and Country Head. The Product Investigation Centre will offer SKF customers with services such as advanced analysis of bearing field usage and post endurance testing evaluation, with high quality and faster response time. Additionally, the lab will also have state of the art Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction machine, grease analysis facility and metrology equipment. SKF also inaugurated the Mechatronics lab to expand mechatronics competencies and product offerings in the Indian market. In order to offer enhanced services, the lab is equipped with technically advanced equipments to help customers with services including new product development, firmware testing and investigation of sensor bearing field returns. Commenting on the establishment of new facilities, Arun Shivaram, Director- Global Technical Centre India said, “The Product Investigation Centre and Mechatronics Lab are important and natural extension of our offerings from SKF Global Technical Centre India (GTCI). This initiative will provide a platform for delivering complete engineering solutions to our customers and leverage in-house capabilities at GTCI. Additionally, the centre is committed to work closer with our customers in India and provide innovative products and solutions to address their need”. SKF inaugurated Global Technical Centre in Bangalore in December 2011, reinforcing its global strategy to open Global Technical Centres to work closer to customers. GTCI supports customers in India and South East Asia, as well as global projects for SKF. The two new laboratories will reduce the time frame for product development and enhance the solutions portfolio, bringing innovation closer to customers.
